Vaccines

Continuum DAP is here  We are proud to announce we are now using Contiuum DAP which is licensed to be  used every 3 years for the core viruses distemper, adenovirus and parvovirus.

Diseases immunity and vaccination  Infectious diseases once killed thousands of pets each year. Then we started vaccinating. Vaccination became one of the greatest success stories of veterinary medicine, saving countless lives and gaining universal acceptance. Initially, few people were concerned with how long vaccines worked- they were just grateful that they worked at all.

These days, due to vaccination, infectious disease is much less common. This had lead to a new debate about whether vaccination is necessary for your pets health. It is important to remember that the diseases we vaccinate against can cause death. An unvaccinated dog that contracts parovovirus can easily become sick requiring hospitalization and results may be fatal. Your dog is vaccinated on a regular basis against distemper, adenovirus (hepatitis), parovirus, parainfluenza and Rabies.

The general consensus from the veterinary community is to now vaccinate every 3 years for distemper, adenovirus (hepatitis), parovirus and Rabies. It is still recommended to vaccinate for parainfuenza and bordetella every year. Our focus here at Abbotsford Veterinary Hospital is the health of your pet and we stress the importance of yearly wellness exams for our younger pets and twice yearly exams for our older companions with their vaccinations tailored to their lifestyle and risk.

Its here! We are happy to announce the release of a three year vaccine for our feline friends.

This vaccine will protect cats against Feline Panleukopenia, Feline Herpes (Rhinotracheitis) and Calici Virus.  Yearly boosters will be recommended for cats that require vaccination against Feline Leukemia.  As always, Rabies Vaccine will remain a 3 year vaccine for cats, and will be recommended for all healthy cats due to the concerns with human health.
